At a care home in Kelvedon Hatch, Brentwood (CM14), we upgraded an old 6-camera coaxial CCTV system to a modern Hikvision system, replacing the outdated cameras and adding 2 new IP cameras for expanded coverage. A hybrid video recorder was used to support both coaxial and IP cameras without needing extensive rewiring.

The new camera placements provide comprehensive coverage, including:

• The car park, with enhanced views of the main driveway entrance and reception doors.

• Additional angles for improved visibility at the entrance and a direct view of the reception door, allowing for effective monitoring of visitor activity.

  
  

A minor challenge involved one coaxial cable that wasn’t properly secured in the previous setup, causing it to retract into the ceiling upon removal. We accessed the loft to retrieve and extend the cable, ensuring a secure and accessible connection for future maintenance.

The upgrade included remote access, which was previously unavailable, allowing the owner to monitor the premises on mobile devices. Additionally, the new hybrid cameras feature adaptive lighting that switches to color when human or vehicle activity is detected, providing optimal visibility and enhanced security alerts.
